Director of Photography JAMES WELLAND graduated with
an MA in Political Studies in 1984 and with an MA in Film from The Royal
College of Art in 1989. Early work as a cinematographer included music
videos, documentaries and the feature films WITTGENSTEIN for Derek Jarman,
THREE STEPS TO HEAVEN for Constantine Giannaris, and DIVORCING JACK
for David Caffrey. Since then work has included shooting over twenty
television drama specials and series, numerous commercials and eight
more feature films including THE LAST MINUTE (Palm Pictures) for Stephen
Norrington, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES (Universal/Columbia TriStar) for Bill
Eagles, UNDERTAKING BETTY (Snowfall /Miramax) for Nick Hurran, CASABLANCA
DRIVER for Maurice Barthélémy, PALAIS ROYAL! (Gaumont /Columbia TriStar)
for Valérie Lemercier, and MAGICIANS (Universal/Intermedia) for Andrew
O'Connor. Recent projects include SPOOKS Series 7 (BBC) for Peter Hoar,
MISTRESSES (BBC) for Peter Hoar, THE FIXER (ITV) for Sam Miller and
Paul Whittington. Work has commenced on the first two episodes of SPOOKS
Series 8 (BBC) for Alrick Riley. Member of the Guild of British Camera
Technicians and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Early
adopter of the Red digital camera system.
