Director of Photography JAMES WELLAND
graduated with an MA in Political Studies from the University of St Andrews, and with an MA in Film from The Royal College of Art. Early work as a cinematographer included music videos, documentaries and independent feature films such as WITTGENSTEIN for Derek Jarman and THREE STEPS TO HEAVEN for Constantine Giannaris. Since then work has included shooting over twenty television drama series and specials, numerous commercials and eight more feature films including THE LAST MINUTE (Palm Pictures) for Stephen Norrington, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES (Universal/Columbia TriStar) for Bill Eagles, UNDERTAKING BETTY (Snowfall /Miramax) for Nick Hurran, CASABLANCA DRIVER for Maurice Barthélémy, PALAIS ROYAL! (Gaumont /Columbia TriStar) for Valérie Lemercier, and MAGICIANS (Universal/Intermedia) for Andrew O'Connor.
Recent projects include TITANIC - BLOOD AND STEEL, a 12 part $28 million TV mini series; and HUNTED for HBO and BBC/Kudos
Member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and the Guild of British Camera Technicians (GBCT).
1999 - Royal Television Society Craft and Design nomination - Lighting, Photography and Camera (Drama) for TOUCHING EVIL
2006 - D&AD Global Yellow Pencil Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinema Graphics for IRAQ - THE BLOODY CIRCUS
